PROTESTSONGS AFL. 7: Solidarity Forever

Ik heb het nummer 'Solidarity Forever' uitgekozen.

'Solidarity Forever', geschreven door Ralph Chaplin in 1915, is een populair vakbondslied. Het wordt gezongen op het nummer van 'John Brown's Body' en 'The Battle Hymn of the Republic'. Hoewel het is geschreven als een lied voor de industriële arbeiders van de wereld (IWW), hebben andere vakbondsbewegingen, zoals de AFL-CIO, het lied als hun eigen overgenomen. Het nummer is uitgevoerd door muzikanten zoals Utah Phillips, Pete Seeger, Leonard Cohen, en werd vernieuwd door Emcee Lynx en The Nightwatchman. Het wordt nog steeds vaak gezongen tijdens vakbondsbijeenkomsten en bijeenkomsten in de Verenigde Staten, Australië en Canada, en wordt ook gezongen op conferenties van de Australische Labour-partij en de Canadese Nieuwe Democratische Partij. Dit heeft mogelijk ook de hymne van de consumentencoöperatiebeweging geïnspireerd, 'The Battle Hymn of Cooperation', die op dezelfde toon wordt gezongen.

Het is vertaald in verschillende andere talen, waaronder Frans, Duits, Pools, Spaans, Swahili en Jiddisch.
Het is een hartverwarmend lied.
