Christmas Song - Gilbert O'Sullivan

Het had niet mooier gekund. Ik wilde dit stukje al schrijven; en nu ligt er ook nog eens sneeuw! Des te beter...

Sinterklaas heeft ons inmiddels al weer een tijdje verlaten, en het is nu volop kerst. Als je het dorp ingaat - of welk winkelcentrum dan ook - hoor je overal liedjes over kerstkindjes, kerstmannen en sneeuwlandschappen. Kerstmuziek.

Onmisbaar hierin is 'White Christmas'. Veelal in de uitvoering van Bing Crosby, maar ook de versies van Louis Armstrong en van Michael Bubblé zijn goed aan te horen.
In het lied vertelt de zanger, dat hij droomt van een witte kerst, en de nostalgie die dat bij hem oproept: "I'm dreaming of a white christmas/just like the onse we used to know..."

Zo niet Gilbert O'Sullivan. In zijn 'Christmas Song' droomt hij specifiek niet van een witte kerst. Maar van een vredige wereld...
